Midwest Food Bank: Helping Oklahoma Tornado Victims (Fri. May 24, 2013 8:00 am)

Midwest Food Bank has responded to a request from The Salvation Army and is sending family food boxes to victims of the tornado in Oklahoma.
A family food box contains food and personal care products for a family of four for four or five days. The first semi load of boxes left from the food bank’s facility in Peoria Wednesday morning. A second load left from Bloomington Wednesday afternoon with additional loads expected to leave next week.
Each semi trailer holds 750 boxes. The food bank is also sending pallets of bottled water and drink. Each box is valued at $23 with a semi load costing $17,250.
Individuals wishing to assist in the preparation of the boxes or to donate to Midwest Food Bank efforts may do so by calling or going online.

Please feel free to donate any of the following items: bottled water, Gatorade, baby wipes, baby formula, diapers, individually wrapped snacks, hand sanitizer, hand towels, work gloves, sunscreen, and any ready-made food. Athens Christian Church is accepting the donations in their office. Most importantly prayers are needed for the team and also for the victims during this terrible time.

The Ride for HOPE is a motorcycle ride that is being organized by The HOPE Chest of Pekin, a non profit thrift store located on the southside of Pekin. This ride is to raise money for a food pantry that will be located in our building at 1106 Derby St. Pekin, IL. It will be open weekly to Central IL residents.
The Ride for HOPE starts at the Avanti's Dome in Pekin. Sign in is at 10:30a.m.; all bikes out by 12:00 p.m. There will be a stop in Fairview, IL at the American Legion. Then, the ride will finish at Goodfella's in Pekin at 4:00 p.m. Following the ride, there will be a spaghetti supper from 4:00-7:00 p.m., and we will have lots of great raffle baskets!!!
