Bloomington, IL 61701

With a theme of "Follow In Their Footsteps - Register & Vote," the 2014 Bloomington Labor Day Parade will march from downtown Bloomington to Miller Park. The parade features union marching units, local marching bands, community organizations, elected officials and politicians, plus heavy construction equipment.

"Too often we forget how hard the battle was to win the right to vote," said Ron Morehead, Bloomington & Normal Trades & Labor Assembly (AFL-CIO) President. "50 years ago this summer young people risked their lives during the Freedom Summer to register voters. 150 years ago a Civil War was fought over keeping other human beings as property. Brave people like Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass, Susan B. Anthony, Martin Luther King Jr. and Cesar Chavez fought to expand voting rights. We need to honor their legacy and maintain our democracy by registering and then voting."

The parade will begin at 10 a.m. on Front Street in downtown Bloomington and then proceed south on Lee Street to Wood Street and conclude at Miller Park.

WCIC staff and Street Team volunteers will be joining the station van in the Bloomington Labor Day parade again this year!
