Journey To The Cross (Fri. Apr 18, 2014 9:00 am - 9:00 pm)

Leading up to Easter this year we are excited to be presenting our Journey to the Cross worship experience as a way to point people to Jesus and His work on our behalf. Lakeside's worship arts ministry will be transforming the entire building into meditative rooms that each portray an event leading up to the crucifixion of Jesus.

One room will be set up as the garden where Jesus prayed. Another will depict the scene of His betrayal. The final room will represent Jesus’ burial tomb. Each room will have things to taste, touch, hear and smell as well as powerful prayers and other elements to help to meditate on what Christ experienced and went through out of love for us. What a wonderful way to tell the story of God's love in a way that is unforgettable.

Ignite Church in downtown Peoria is kicking off their Easter celebration in an unconventional way: by hosting a Good Friday Blood Drive. On Good Friday millions of Americans will remember the blood that Jesus shed in order to save humanity. We can think of no better way to remember and celebrate His sacrifice, than by giving our blood to save others.

So on Good Friday from 1:00-5:00 p.m., Ignite Church will partner with the American Red Cross to host a Good Friday Blood Drive for the community at the Peoria Civic Center in room 220 (park and enter at Monroe St. entrance). All eligible donors age 16 (with parental consent) and older are invited to attend. Pre-registration is encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome! For more information or to pre-register you can email the church or call the phone number provided above.

Donating blood can save up to THREE lives! It only takes about 15 minutes and free snacks are provided for all participants. Come celebrate Christ's sacrifice and participate in this life saving event.

Second Presbyterian Hosts Fifth Annual “What’s So Good About Good Friday?” Art Exhibit (Fri. Apr 18, 2014 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm)

Contact Info:

Second Presbyterian Church - 313 N. East St., Bloomington, IL 61701
http://www.facebook.com/secondpres

Join local and regional artists in an expressive journey as they present their reflections on Good Friday as well as other elements of Christian faith. All art will be displayed in the atrium of Second Presbyterian Church.

The public is invited to the fifth annual “What’s So Good About Good Friday?” show. Light refreshments will be served during the evening reception.

David Barton, Pastor at Second Pres, describes, "The theme of this exhibit is centered on why Jesus Christ's crucifixion and death were good. Jesus was born to die and then to live again." Luke 24:46-47 says, “and He said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day, and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.”

The art exhibit will close with a Good Friday worship service at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary at Second Pres. The Good Friday story is told through scripture with light diminishing and a variety of music and art until the sanctuary is completely dark and quiet.

All are welcome to attend. This art show began five years ago when Good Friday coincided with First Friday, a monthly art event in downtown Bloomington. This art exhibit has grown significantly over the years, reaching more than a thousand viewers in 2013. The Good Friday art exhibit features members of Art Circle of Bloomington-Normal, members of Second Presbyterian Church, local and regional artists, and students from Calvary Christian Academy.
