Asante, which means “THANK YOU” in Swahili, is an eleven-year-old Christian organization which currently educates, feeds, and provides health insurance for more than 2,000 children- mostly orphans- in Rwanda, Uganda and Burundi. The Asante Children’s Choir is made up of 23 children from these underprivileged countries.

The choir was formed originally in order to bring Africa to our sponsors to say “Thank you”.  It has grown as a way for the kids to express their deep appreciation of God, God’s love, and the support that so many show to underprivileged children and families around the world.

The testimonies of the children inspire audiences by showing them that, despite the desolate circumstances the children come from, they have beauty, dignity, hope and unlimited potential. Audiences have also been motivated, encouraged and moved to participate in God’s transforming work in communities both locally and internationally. Their colorful clothing, pounding drums, dance, and sweet voices demonstrate their incredible joy in the Lord.

All choir performances are FREE!

A love offering will be taken as well as African crafts available for purchase after the show.

Sterling High School Auditorium

Hispanic Business Leaders Committee & Trabajando Juntos invite you to attend, "Bringing Our Silver History to Life," presented by LTC (Ret.) Consuelo Castillo Kickbush.

This free public presentation is the story of Sterling's Silver City and how it shaped our community. Gain a new sense of hope and energy about your future.

In the Spring of 1947, on the West Side of Avenue G in Sterling, Illinois, in a field next to the Rock River, over a hundred discarded WWII boxcars housed a migrant work force, primarily Hispanics and Southerners, who had come to Northwestern Steel and Wire Company for well paying union jobs. This place was locally known as Silver City because the boxcars were painted silver to reflect the sun's heat.

LTC (Ret.) Consuelo Castillo Kickbush is a renowned charismatic, passionate, and influential speaker all too familiar with the challenges of poverty, discrimination, and illiteracy. Although she grew up without material wealth, she was taught by her immigrant parents that she was rich in culture, tradition, values, and faith. Today, Consuelo tells her story doing exactly what she preaches...living a legacy.

For more information about this inspiring event, call the Sauk Valley Area Chamber of Commerce.
