The Illinois Valley Fuller Center for Housing 2nd Annual Springdale Salute 5K Run/1 Mile Walk will be held this Memorial Day. The run will start in lower Glen Oak Park and go through Springdale Cemetery. $100.00 cash prize will be given to the MOST PATRIOTIC COSTUME and awards for age groups. Patriotic sunglasses will be given to the first 100 registered.   Proceeds from the run/walk will be used for Veterans home repairs in the Tri-County area. The outing will begin with a putting challenge and a shot gun start at 1pm for the 4-man scramble.

The Golf Outing & Dinner's proceeds from the event will benefit the Neville House Emergency Domestic Violence Shelter and Mayors Manor Permanent Supportive Housing.  Create your own foursome or sign up as an individual.  Play will be a 4 person scramble.

The 2nd Day of Hope will take place in support of the programs and services at Home Sweet Home Ministries and the Center for Youth and Family Solutions. 

 

These all-day, community-wide activities include:

  • A community-wide food drive at many Bloomington-Normal Jewel and Schnucks locations, as well as Kroger, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

  • A clothing and shoes recycling drive at First Assembly, 800 E. Vernon Ave. in Normal, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  

  • Washing and detailing of the Center for Youth and Family Solutions fleet of vehicles that serve foster families throughout McLean County from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. 

  • A free “Day of Hope Block Party” at Miller Park featuring live music, games, inflatables, and entertainment for everyone in the community from 4:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m.

 

The Day of Hope is sponsored by First Assembly of God Bloomington-Normal, Compass Church, and the Spanish congregation Iglesia Celebracion.

A Gospel Fest and fundraiser for Meadows Communities will be held in Chenoa.

 

Featured performers for the event include several local groups: Living Water, Chenoa Baptist Church Choir, Those Guys, Yom 6, Barry K. Young, Lexington United Methodist Church, River of Life Praise Band, and Mennonite Church of Normal Youth Musicians.

 

Tickets are on sale for $10.  Children age 3 and under enter free of charge.

 

Tickets include entertainment and a delicious meal of a smoked beef brisket sandwich with house-made BBQ sauce. Accompaniments will be baked beans, corn on the cob, marinated cucumbers and onions, and a homemade oatmeal cookie. There will also be a bake sale provided by Meadows Associate Churches and the Meadows Auxiliary Board, a cake walk, and a bounce house for children.

 

In Chenoa, tickets are available at Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community and The Chenoa Pharmacy.

In Lexington, tickets are available at Platform 322.

In Normal, tickets are available at Meadows at Mercy Creek and The Garlic Press.

Captain Scott Altman, USN (Retired) is coming to Lincoln for a pulled-pork dinner followed by a presentation by Scott himself. Come hear his amazing story at the American Legion Post #263. 

 

Althman, who was born in Lincoln and raised in Pekin, served on four space shuttle missions for NASA. He is a retired Navy captain who also flew the F-14 Tomcat fighter as a stunt double for Tom Cruise in Top Gun. 

 

Advance tickets are available for $20 at the State Bank of Lincoln or by calling First Baptist Church of Lincoln. Group discounts for eight or more are also available by calling the church. Tickets sold at the door will be $25. This event is being sponsored by First Baptist Church, Lincoln with proceeds going to their new building.

Mt. Olive Jr. High School Student Council is trying to win a playground made from recycled oral care waste through the second annual Recycled Playground Challenge, sponsored by TerraCycle, Colgate, and Meijer.

Join us on the Peoria Riverfront for this 5K to raise awareness about Melanoma and help raise money for the research and development of a cure.

 

The race will start at Running Central and finish by the Gateway Building. 

 

The registration cost is $25 before July 1 and $30 through race day. Shirts are guaranteed with early registration with some sizes available later. 

 

Registration for the new 1 mile option is $20 before July 1 and $25 through race day. 

 

Packets can be picked up from 11am - 6pm at Running Central on Friday July 15th or at 7am on race day.
