What is Bowl For Kids’ Sake?

Bowl For Kids’ Sake is Big Brothers Big Sisters’ BIGGEST fundraiser, raising money for the children in Sangamon County. The money raised supports our mentoring programs and current matches and helps recruit, screen, train and support new matches. As a bowler, you are helping us raise much needed funds to keep providing positive, adult mentors to children in need of a positive adult influence. To say thank you for your efforts and support, we provide you with free bowling, free food, free drinks*, entertainment and prizes. Bowl For Kids’ Sake is a huge party for all our bowlers! *Must have minimum of $130 in pledges to receive drink tickets

What is the role of the Team Captain?

The Team Captain’s role is to distribute the pledge brochures to all members of the bowling team and inform them that this is a fundraiser to help raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters. The team captain is responsible for sending in the team roster with the names of all the bowlers and the date and time to bowl, as well as encourage everyone on the team to raise the minimum $130 per person.

What if I or my team members do not raise $130 in pledges?

There is not a required amount of money to bowl, but we encourage everyone to raise a minimum of $130 or a team goal of $650. Since this is a fundraiser, we want to raise as much money as possible to maximize our profits from the event. It does cost BBBS money to put on BFKS. It’s easier than you might think! If you ask 13 people to donate $10 or 7 people to donate $20, you’ve reached your goal! Once you raise $130 in pledges, you are eligible to win great prizes!

What if I forget my pledge sheet the day of the event?

If you and your team members have collected pledges but forget to bring the pledge sheet(s) with you the day you bowl, we will give you an envelope and ask that you mail in your pledge sheet the following week. If you or your team members have not collected any pledges, we will require that you pledge yourself and have you fill out a pledge sheet at the door. While we want as many bowlers as possible, we also want to raise as much money as possible.

Please do not register to bowl if you are not willing to help raise money.

How many people can I have on my team?

We would like for every team to have 5 or 6 people, which includes the team captain. However, we will allow a team of 4 bowlers. We try to have everyone bowl in an hour time frame, and more than 6 people can take longer to finish the game. If you have fewer than 4 people on a team, we might add people to your team if lanes are full.

Do I have to collect the money myself?

No. Big Brothers Big Sisters will send out invoices to everyone on your pledge sheet, so you do not have to worry about collecting money. Please make sure the person’s name and address are completely filled out and legible. If you want to or do collect any money, please bring it with you the day you bowl. All donations are tax-deductible. Checks can be made out to Big Brothers Big Sisters. You can also make pledges online.

"Helping Your Neighbors in Need" is the theme for the 2015 Foodshare Canathon!

People are encouraged to fill a bag with canned and nonperishable foods and place it on their doorstep on Sunday, March 8th. Neighborhood door-to-door collection will take place between 1 and 4 p.m.

Preferred items are canned fish or meat, peanut butter, soup, canned vegetables and fruits, boxed dinners, and pasta.

There will also be drop-off sites at area Kroger stores, Peoria area Subways, all Peoria neighborhood fire stations, and area Curves from March 2nd through March 22nd. The Peoria Journal Star will include Canathon bags with newspaper delivery on March 2nd. The people we miss during the Sunday collection may fill those bags and drop them off at any of the above sites.

All food donated will go to Peoria area food pantries to provide food to individuals and families facing food insecurity.

We will again receive a percentage of the 17th annual Alan Shawn Feinstein Foundation $1 million dollar donation to anti-hunger agencies. The more we collect, the higher our percentage will be! We can report $1 for each food item collected!

Hundreds of volunteers from the Central Illinois area will canvas area neighborhoods for the door-to-door collection on March 8th. This will take place in neighborhoods in Peoria, Bartonville, Princeville, Creve Coeur, Pekin, Chillicothe, Lacon, East Peoria, and Morton. Volunteers will meet at University United Methodist Church (2818 N University) in Peoria to obtain name tags, bags, and maps. Other kick-off areas include Bartonville Christian Church, Creve Coeur Christian Church, and First Assembly of God Church in Chillicothe. To volunteer to help collect food, contact Pepper Bauer at the phone number or email listed above.

We are counting on you to help us help our neighbors in need!

The 8th grade class at Springfield Christian School is collecting soda tabs as a holocaust project. We want to get a better visual on just a SMALL number of the Jewish lives that were lost. Our class chose a country (Czechoslovakia) which had 277,000 Jewish deaths in it during the times of the Holocaust. So our goal is to collect 277,000 soda/ soup can tabs anytime from now until the end of April. When we are done with these tabs we will donate them to the Ronald McDonald House in Springfield, Illinois. The Ronald McDonald House provides a place for families to live (free of charge) if they have children in the hospital for an extended period of time.
