Big Brothers Big Sisters of Springfield is appealing to the community to support the 33rd Annual Bowl for Kids’ Sake event, the mentoring organization’s biggest fundraiser. This year’s event will be held over the course of three weekends. Available sessions: March 4 at 9:30, March 5 at 1:00, 2:00 and 3:00, March 11 at 5:00 and 9:30, March 13 at noon, 1:00 and 2:00, and March 18 at 5:00 and 9:30 p.m.

The donor-funded organization challenges everyone—mentors and mentees, their friends and families, partners, community leaders, as well as others who may not have time to mentor but support Big Brothers Big Sisters’ mission—to join Bowl for Kids’ Sake and start something to change the life of a child forever. The nation’s leader in quality one-to-one youth mentoring services, Big Brothers Big Sisters holds itself accountable for and is able to measure specific youth outcomes. Its programs focus on educational achievement, avoidance of risky behaviors such as juvenile delinquency, higher self-esteem, confidence and the ability to relate to others. “Bowl for Kids’ Sake brings the whole community together in support of a positive future for our kids,” said Lisa Rakey, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Illinois Capital Region. “No matter how someone chooses to be involved—bowler, team captain, sponsor, or even a virtual bowler—each person has a hand in helping to start a child on the right path. Every dollar raised through Bowl for Kids’ Sake directly funds our mentoring programs in Sangamon County and helps to maintain and sustain our mentoring relationships, increasing kids chances for success.”

So, get your team of 4-6 friends, co-workers, and family members together and have some fun for a good cause. Join the party and enjoy food, bowling, lots of prizes, and great music. It's NOT a bowling tournament. It's a giant thank you party for collecting pledges for BBBS. Make it even more fun by dressing up as a team. It's a win for BBBS and a win for you and your team.

This year, donations will be used at In His Hands Haiti to build a well and install a purification system, build a multipurpose building and pavilion, and help struggling parents to start businesses to provide for their children. Donations will also help here in the United States to provide a maternity home for women in crisis pregnancies.

Major support for In His Hands comes from this event, and we hope you will join with us this year to change the lives of orphans. We desire to make more people aware of the plight of orphans worldwide, and continue our work, as well.

We are delighted to have Jonny join us, but even more excited to share one of the evenings with you!
