The Bard Optical Galesburg office will celebrate 15 years of providing vision care excellence in October. Opened by Dr. A. Arthur Bard in 1941 in downtown Peoria, Diana Hall purchased the practice in 1981 and has expanded Bard Optical to 20 locations in Central and Southern Illinois.

 

Please join us October 8, from 3-6 p.m. to celebrate the 15th anniversary and attend the Designer Eyewear Show featuring new frame designs from Ray-Ban, Versace, Burberry, and more. Enjoy a 25% savings on frames and lenses purchased at the event. The Galesburg Chamber will perform a ribbon cutting, refreshments will be served, and prizes will be given away.

 

Bard Optical is partnering with LaGrace Hall of Hope Women’s Shelter in Galesburg. Bard will donate partial proceeds from the Designer Eyewear Show to LaGrace. Bring your cape and head down to the Peoria Riverfront as we run, walk, or fly to raise money for the Heart of Illinois United Way. On Saturday, October 11th, the riverfront will be the safest place to be as hundreds of superheroes unite to help our community.  The 5K will start at 1:00 p.m. at Liberty Park and run out and back along the trail, ending at the park.  Following the 5K, the young superheroes will take center stage, dashing after the Joker in the first ever Kids' 1/2 mile Villain Chase! Then, we’ll all celebrate his capture with a post-race party with food, live music, and entertainment!  So bring your friends and family, because when we help our community, there's a superhero in all of us.  For more information, visit the website link above.

The Sterling-Rock Falls Family YMCA is honoring the past and inspiring the future with a 125th anniversary celebration. The evening will celebrate the game of basketball (which was invented at a YMCA in Massachusetts just two years after the Sterling-Rock Falls Y was founded) with a scrimmage with Newman, Rock Falls, and Sterling high school teams. The main event will be a “Throwback” basketball game played by local celebrties using the original 13 rules of the Peach Basket Ball. The event will take place at Sauk Valley Community College. The fee is a free-will donation for admission.

The Santa Run/Walk is a charity event featuring a festive run between downtown Sterling and Rock Falls benefitting the Sterling-Rock Falls Family YMCA scholarship fund. The event is not timed and is open to everyone--strollers and families are welcome. The running Santas are the first entry in the parade! Kick off the holiday season with a new family tradition.
