Shoe Drive to Help Provide Safe Water (Sat. Aug 1, 2015 6:00 pm)

Nearly 750 million people lack access to safe drinking water, according to a 2014 study released by the World Health Organization and UNICEF. That's more than 1 out of every 10 people who inhabit this earth. "Of these, almost a quarter (173 million) rely on untreated surface water," the study says, "and over 90% live in rural areas."

That's why, for the fourth consecutive year, St. Ann's WATCH program, in partnership with The Iona Group and Float, are co-sponsoring a shoe drive from August 1-31 throughout central Illinois to help provide clean drinking water for those in need.

All shoes collected - flip-flops, sandals, tennis shoes, clogs, dress shoes, garden shoes, etc. - will be donated to WaterStep, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to help many of the world's problems by providing access to clean water. WaterStep then sells the shoes to an exporter, and the funds raised from the sale of shoes go to WaterStep's work of providing safe water solutions to people in third-world communities and disaster-hit areas. They do this by providing their own water treatment systems, offering health and hygiene education, and training people who go into areas with unclean water about how to do water projects.

The exporter then sells the shoes to entrepreneurs from developing countries to provide a sustainable living for their families. Additionally, shoes improve residents' overall health by protecting them from abrasions, parasites and mites. Here at home, closets are cleaned out and landfill waste is reduced.

Donating new or used shoes to WaterStep helps provide a sustainable supply of safe drinking water for one person, one family, and one community at a time. Just a few minutes spent collecting old shoes from closets, basements or garages can make a real difference - a difference that ultimately saves lives.

This year, we have an aggressive goal of 30,000 pairs of shoes to support WaterStep's mission. Since 2012, with the support of the local community, nearly 50,000 pairs of shoes have been donated to this worthwhile endeavor.

Love Packages is a ministry that receives donated Christian materials to send to nations throughout the world that cannot afford them or cannot obtain them. In Butler, IL 20 foot ocean-going containers are fully packed and sent by truck and then barge to such places as India, South Africa, Liberia, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.

Bibles, Sunday School materials, Bible Reference books, Christian books, Christian magazines and Tracts, Christian CD's and DVD's are all packed by catagory and sent to 3rd world countries. Bibles in any condition, Protestant or Catholic are the most requested resource. For this reason we are especially asking for donations of Bibles.

Shoe Drive to Help Provide Safe Water (Sun. Aug 9, 2015 6:00 pm)

A broad coalition of pro-life organizations is calling for a nationwide protest at Planned Parenthood (PP) facilities August 22, 2015. Our goal is to raise awareness of the heartless and even illegal activities of Planned Parenthood by going to where the killing and harvesting of body parts from aborted children takes place. The four main sponsors are: Created Equal, Pro-Life Action League, and Citizens for a Pro-Life Society. Currently there are over 40 co-sponsors.

Creating a presence at neighborhood Planned Parenthood facilities is essential to inform the public about what is going on behind closed doors. Local sidewalk counselors and activists are a key component to shutting down Planned Parenthood in the long term.

The National Day of Protest will strengthen local efforts by raising their profile with the local press, the community and other pro-life activists. Together, the protests held on August 22 will put pressure on the media, both local and national, to report the truth about Planned Parenthood, and on government officials to stop funding this discredited organization.

Here are the event details:

What: Press conference, prayer, and holding signs calling attention to PP's baby parts trafficking

Where: Planned Parenthood facilities all across America.

When: August 22, 2015 from 9:00-11:00 a.m.

Visit the website listed above for a complete map of all PPs in America.

Visit this website if you want to organize a protest in your city: http://protestpp.com/organize-a-protest-in-your-city/
