I’m not a psychologist. I’m just a guy who’s picked up some helpful tips from being married to a woman who’s extremely wise. Also, through investing many hours with a counselor. I hope what I share here will help you continue to grow in your own life. I am also a work in progress.
The other day, my wife, Jill, said to me, “You’ve been really acting touchy! What’s going on?” You know… one of those moments when you seem to be biting heads off like it’s an Olympic sport!
She was absolutely right… I was being uncharacteristically touchy. What was going on?
When I’m acting emotionally, I like to stop and ask myself, “Why am I reacting this way?”
- Am I getting enough sleep?
- Am I eating well?
- Am I stressed?
- Is it something deeper?
Of course, it can be a combination of these things, right?
Is it something deeper? That’s the big one! Is there something deeper going on inside me?
I’m feeling not good enough.
I’m feeling less than.
I feel like a failure.
I feel threatened.
I find if I can name what it is that’s going on inside me, that is POWERFUL. It’s the start of me being able to take the real issue to God and for Him to start addressing it in ways only He can.
My prayer for you today is that you can be honest with what’s really going on inside you. I encourage you to embrace it. It’s truly the only way you and I are going to become more like Jesus.
