He's the Same God Today

You know how you can read something over and over, and then on the 20th time, something new strikes you?

I’ve been reading about David in the Bible. I’ve read his story before, but this time, when I got to the part about how he faced Goliath, this verse stuck out to me:

As Goliath moved closer to attack, David quickly ran out to meet him. -I Samuel 17:48

Quickly ran out to meet him. A giant. A giant that had every other man in the Israelite army running away in fear. A giant that no one thought David could defeat. He was just a boy after all.

His brothers wanted him to go home and take care of the sheep. Saul told him there was no way he could win the fight.

No one believed in him.

But when the Philistine champion, who intimidated everyone around him – and threw all sorts of taunts and insults at David – took a step toward him, David didn’t retreat. He didn’t even just hold his ground. He ran at him.

That’s the confidence of someone who knows God is with him.

Listen to what David said to Goliath: “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies—the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. Today the Lord will conquer you.”

That’s the same God we serve today.

That means we can be like David. We can not only fight against the evil one, we can go on the offensive. We can charge at our enemy, using the Word of God with boldness and confidence, because He has already won us the victory!
