Lyrics

The other day, I was thinking to myself
Made a list of all my mistakes
Oh, I wish I could’ve run to you
And tell you all about my heartbreak
And I wondered to myself “Wait a minute
Am I even on the right path now?”
Had a couple wins, but I got knocked down
But I know if you were still around, you would say

Sometimes you lose, sometimes you win
You gotta get up, up again
Keep holding on, it’s not the end

You gotta get up, up again
You can get up, up again
You can get up, up again

And I guess not every little thing
Works out just the way you dreamed
You can take a couple wrong turns
Still end up where you’re supposed to be
And even though in a moment
I know anything can change
You’re perfect plans might fall apart
But the simple truth remains

Sometimes you lose, sometimes you win
You gotta get up, up again
Keep holding on, it’s not the end

You gotta get up, up again
You, you can get up, up again
You can get up, up again
You, you can get up, up again
You can get up, up again

‘Cause you’ve only got one life
And you don’t know when it ends
You’ve only got one heart
So get out there and live
Yeah, you’ve only got one life
Don’t let it get away
Everyone falls down
But you can get up, up again

You, you can get up, up again
You can get up, up again

And I guess not every little thing
Works out just the way you dreamed
You can take a couple wrong turns
Still end up where you’re supposed to be

About This Song

a few notes from Joe B., Music Director

"I lost my mom a few years ago in a car accident. And I remember sitting in the writing room and just started writing a letter of what I would tell my mom...and in the song, there is a callback of what she would probably say to me: 'Sometimes you lose, sometimes you win. You can get up again.' And so for me, it was an emotional day writing that song. And it’s also encouraging because no matter how many times you fall, you can get up again. If you’re alive today with breath in your lungs, there’s hope and a different story than the current one you have." - Dan Bremnes

Dan is a Nashville-based pop singer-songwriter, originally from Canada, who has circled the entire globe, visiting 26 countries during his lifetime. True to his heart for adventure, Bremnes produced a documentary telling the story of his trip around the world in eight days. Touring and playing concerts in multiple countries, the Juno Award and GMA Canada Covenant Award winner has played for well over a million people.

We all experience heartache and struggle in our lives that can knock us down. It's great to be infused with encouragement and hope during those times of our lives. I believe this song will do just that for the many listeners who are walking through that kind of season. For those in a fun season, they'll find themselves smiling as they sing along with this fun, upbeat summer song!
