But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint. -Isaiah 40:31
I’ve been reflecting on this verse a lot this year as we have been focused on what it means to RISE UP with wings like eagles.
The ESV version of the Bible uses the phrase “wait on the Lord." The word wait can produce a feeling of helplessness and negativity. We live in a society that specializes in speed as to almost eliminate waiting altogether. Waiting can often feel like a waste of time. And often times, waiting makes us feel discouraged.
But the meaning of the original word is not a passive type of waiting, where we just sit around helpless. It’s more like hope. Waiting on the Lord is active and laced with expectancy.
It’s like the difference between waiting in line at the DMV and the waiting you do after you get a notification that your package is arriving today.
This active, expectant kind of waiting on Him is what brings us the strength we need to walk, run, and soar without growing weary.

Because you know something good is coming.
Maybe you are in a season of waiting and feeling weary. Don’t be discouraged! His Word says God will strengthen you as we wait on Him. It is in the waiting that God shows up!
Do you believe that? I do! And WCIC is committed to sharing that hope we have in Jesus. Every day. We want to point people to the God who gives us strength in the waiting.
And we can’t do any of that without you. WCIC is listener-supported, and it is people like you, praying and giving monthly, who make what we do possible. We appreciate you so much!
Would you RISE UP with us as we share that life-changing hope? Our 2021 fall fundraiser is October 5-8. Thank you for praying about joining our financial support team.
We are expecting God to do great things, and we would love for you to be a part of it!
Let’s RISE UP together as we put all of our hope in Him!
