From Court to Community: Jonathon’s Mission to “Master the Simple”

On August 16, the love of basketball meets the power of hope in our community—all thanks to Jonathon, the founder of Masters of the Simple.

Jonathon’s story begins in an unlikely place: learning the game of basketball from his incarcerated mother. In those moments, the sport became more than just a game. It was a lifeline, a way to connect, to focus, and to believe that life could be more than its hardest chapters.

Now, years later, Jonathon is using that same love of basketball to inspire others. His message is simple but powerful: No matter the life you were born into, it doesn’t have to define your future. With focus, discipline, and heart, you can rise above your circumstances.

Saturday, August 16 marks the 5th Annual FREE Basketball Clinic, hosted by Masters of the Simple. Open to kids and teens ages 8-17 of all skill levels, the event offers not just basketball skills, but also lessons in teamwork, perseverance, and building a better future.

Jonathon believes that if you master the simple, you can tackle the big. And with this event, he’s inviting our community to see that truth in action.
