Lyrics

I push, I pull
Go back and forth finding myself pounding on a locked door
I try to make it out alone without your help
But I know I’ll never win this war
I can never be, never be, free without you
I can never be, never be, me without you

This is the sound of chains breaking
This is the beat of a heart changing
This is a song of a soul forgiven
This is my freedom hymn
This is my freedom hymn, my freedom hymn
This is my freedom hymn, my freedom hymn

I breathe the air of freedom in knowing my life
Is better off in Your hands
The past is gone, what’s done is done
Now I’m alive
And I’m never gonna look back
I can never be, never be, free without you
I can never be, never be, me without you

This is the sound of chains breaking
This is the beat of a heart changing
This is a song of a soul forgiven
This is my freedom hymn
This is my freedom hymn, my freedom hymn
This is my freedom hymn, my freedom hymn

Who the Son sets (free)
Is free indeed
Who the Son sets
Is free indeed
Who the Son sets
Is free
I’m free, oh

This is the sound of chains breaking
This is the beat of a heart changing
This is a song of a soul forgiven, oh
This is the sound of chains breaking
This is the beat of a heart changing
This is a song of a soul forgiven
This is my freedom hymn
This is my freedom hymn (my freedom hymn), my freedom hymn (my freedom hymn)
This is my freedom hymn, my freedom hymn, ooh

About This Song

Austin wrote this song as he was reflecting back on his childhood. A particular time when he went to his pastor to ask why they always sing all of these old hymns week after week. It was his pastor’s response that inspired this song. His Pastor’s response, “Sometimes we need a song and we need a hymn to say the words our heart wants to say but our words fail to” Austin said those words stuck with him throughout his life and he had a desire to one day write a hymn (modern hymn) for the church. As he became an adult, he began to lead in church and serve the church, became a youth pastor and eventually moved to Delray Beach, Florida to serve in the recovery community there. He says that changed everything for him. Working and serving there and he began to have this desire to write a song, an anthem, not only for this recovery community but for the recovery community world-wide. The church.

We are all recovering from something and need to be reminded and to know that we have been set free by Jesus! I believe this song will help us experience true freedom as our eyes are pointed back to HIM as we sing along.
