Lyrics

Bring your tired
And bring your shame
Bring your guilt
And bring your pain
Don’t you know that’s not your name
You will always be much more to me

Every day I wrestle with the voices
That keep telling me I’m not right
But that’s alright

‘Cause I hear a voice and He calls me redeemed
When others say I’ll never be enough
And greater is the One living inside of me
Than he who is living in the world
In the world
In the world
And greater is the One living inside of me
Than he who is living in the world

Bring your doubts
And bring your fears
Bring your hurt
And bring your tears
There’ll be no condemnation here
You are holy, righteous and redeemed

Every time I fall
There’ll be those who will call me
A mistake
Well that’s okay

‘Cause I hear a voice and He calls me redeemed
When others say I’ll never be enough
And greater is the One living inside of me
Than he who is living in the world
In the world
In the world
And greater is the One living inside of me
Than he who is living in the world

There’ll be days I lose the battle
Grace says that it doesn’t matter
‘Cause the cross already won the war
He’s Greater, He’s Greater

I am learning to run freely
Understanding just how He sees me
And it makes me love Him more and more
He’s Greater, He’s Greater

There’ll be days I lose the battle
Grace says that it doesn’t matter
‘Cause the cross already won the war
He’s Greater, He’s Greater

I am learning to run freely
Understanding just how He sees me
And it makes me love Him more and more
He’s Greater, He’s Greater

‘Cause I hear a voice and He calls me redeemed
When others say I’ll never be enough
And greater is the One living inside of me
Than he who is living in the world
In the world
In the world
And greater is the One living inside of me
Than he who is living in the world

There’ll be days I lose the battle
Grace says that it doesn’t matter
‘Cause the cross already won the war
He’s Greater, He’s Greater

I am learning to run freely
Understanding just how He sees me
And it makes me love Him more and more
My God is greater (He’s Greater, He’s Greater)
Than he who is living in the world

About This Song

"This song is about grace from top to bottom. If there is one song that musically and spiritually represents the place where we are, the grace message of joy, this is that song. Every once in a while the message, the joy of what you are saying, and the music lines up just right. If you can't get your heart rate going with this song, then you probably aren't really living!

At 41 years old, I feel like I am just starting to grasp who I am in Christ. I grew up with a legalistic background where the harder you try, the better God likes you. Even though it was all about grace, there were always more things you could do to make life better. A couple of years ago, a dear friend reminded me that there is nothing in our life that we can do to make Christ love us any more than he does. Because of the cross, you are a brand new creation. The works you do for Christ are like breathing. You don't need to do anything for Him to get right with God, but because you are right with God.

That really turned me upside down as I hadn't heard anything like that. I'm a guy who started a band, and I have done a lot of things in my life to try to get God's attention. It's not about that at all. The grace message unpacked and unfolded in my life. When you realize that you don't need to try so hard, you start to see a little more clearly that you can never do enough. The work was finished on the Cross. That's the breath of fresh air that inspired this whole album. You can't worry about the heart that can't be trusted. You have a brand new heart and mind in Christ. I can't sabotage that relationship I have with Jesus and be taken from His hand. I want to tell anyone who will listen to welcome them to the new."
